Zgasła | She Faded Away (2023)
hand dyed cotton and jute

The textile art "She Faded Away" depicts a square meter of meadow partially devastated by human practices of burning. Despite being legally prohibited in Poland, such practices are often employed for land clearance and landscape management, resulting in irreversible damage to ecosystems and loss of biodiversity. They not only deplete the soil but also contribute to the death of animals inhabiting the meadows and fields.

By presenting a vision of a meadow fading beneath layers of charred remains and ash, the fabric also alludes to the artist's personal memories of childhood spent in the countryside among lush vegetation and wildflowers. It expresses an intimate connection with nature, longing for the beauty and tranquility of the surrounding landscape, while reminding us of the need to respect the flora and fauna that inhabit it, in order to achieve harmony between humans and the natural world.
